us with first extensive look into the shaping of the Ivatan

and people. Divided into three main parts, the book talks
about pre-history of Batanes, the foreign influences on
its people and culture, and the present-day Ivatans. Authored

acknowledged expert in linguistics and Ivatan culture.

If you are an "ipula" (non-Ivatan), this book
we hope will delight your sensibilities as you appreciate
a people who remained steadfast in their work and family
values amidst the rapidly changing world."-
