An Ivatan Debutante in Toronto
(from Bandillo Batanes)

Ann Karen Caballero, the only daughter of Engr. Roger Caballero and former Aurora Carpiso, celebrated her 18th birthday at the Yorkland Room of the Ramada Hotel in uptown Toronto last September 5.

Ann Karen is a graduating student at Senator O'Connor High School. Her escort was Michael Rodrigues from the same school.

The debutante is the only sister of Christian Caballero (owner of Acces Care, Inc.-one of Toronto's premier health care providers) and Jerome Caballero (also a graduating student of Senator O'Connor).

Guests were treated to a night of music and dancing, including the traditional cotillion dance. There was dancing for both and not-so-young alike.

The strains of The Beautiful Blue Danube and Viennese Waltz transported the guests into another time and place. Not to be outdone, the debutante's parents, Roger and Aurora, did some fancy footwork on the dance floor, waltzing all through the night.

The younger crowd were mostly friends of the celebrant, while the more senior ones were family and friends as well as colleagues of the elder Caballeros. Among the distinguished guests were relatives and friends from Los Angeles.

Sonny Capito (Sonny's boyhood days were spent in Imnajbu) and his charming wife-the former Elsa Horbino, along with their children, were among those in attendance.

Also in attendance were Califonians Ursing Mirabueno (back to the good ol' days in Batanes and then in LA) and Nilda Terrado (neč Garcia), along with her son John Michael Terrado, who was an escort to one of the flower girls.

Closer to home, the Ivatan Community of Toronto were also present: the Agsulids and Violas of Basco, Garcia Belgado of Itbayat-Sabtang, the Agudos and Espedidos Leiberman of Ivana, and Cabrito Enfiesta of Sabtang.

It was family presence from the Uyugan Community of Toronto: the Batin Milnes, the Batin Valerios, the Tuazons.

Other distinguished guests included Consul Olivia Palala, along with her mother, Mrs. Castro Valera (sister of Engineer Castro)
