The municipalities of Mahatao and Ivana have decided to relocate their respective garbage dumpsites in support of the Clean and Green Program of the national government. These moves are also in compliance with environmental regulations. This was disclosed by the Vice Mayor of Mahatao Hon. Pedro Poncio and Vice Mayor Rolan Cadiz of Ivana.
Mahatao, Batanes

The Municipality of Mahatao started dumping at their new dumpsite at Payaman 1 five kilometers away from the town proper in March. While the Municipalities of Ivana started using the new dumpsite at the babaw area two and a half kilometers south of the town proper in April of this year. Both municipalities now have dump trucks which collect garbage twice a week in Ivana and four times a week in Mahatao.

Vice- Mayor Pedro Poncio said that with the relocation of the dumpsite, the streets and even the coastline areas have become cleaner. Every household in both municipalities are required to pay a monthly fee of P20.00.

In Mahatao , the residents are allowed to bring their garbage out in the streets when the truck is approaching. Otherwise, they are required to keep their garbage within their premises until the next schedule round.

Every household is required to immediately pick up their trash cans and waste baskets once these are emptied. They are not allowed to leave these in the streets to become eyesores.
