BPLS conducts resource rehab training

		The Batanes Protected Landscapes and Seascapes-Project Implementing Unit (BPLS-PIU) conducted the Marine Resources Rehabilitation and Technology Transfer Training last July 19, 1999 at Vitaoy Beach of Barangay Kayvaluganan, Uyugan. The training was participated in by twenty (20)
Uyugan, Batanes

youths from Barangay Itbud and Uyugan Centro. PASu George Reyes gave an introduction and overview of the training. The trainors were Francis Domingo, Byron Peralta and Christy Heitmiller with Dra. Rhodora Hontomin and Mrs. Emily Balderas, LDW as their facilitators.

Among the topics discussed were: Basic Marine Ecology, Simple Fishing Technology, and measures for Marine Resource for Rehabilitation. During the training, the idea of fish sanctuary was also introduced, wherein the participants were informed of the advantages of having a fish sanctuary, and the benefits that they themselves, as well as their children and grandchildren, can stand to gain. The youth group will eventually become the environment youth corps group of Uyugan. Participants later experienced actual training with modern diving equipment which they thoroughly enjoyed.
