The simplicity of the Ivatans is what strikes me most as an occasional
visitor of the Island and there is always the element of excitement every
time you arrange a trip to Batanes which builds up as you take off from
the airport, and from then on, an exhilarating journey of the many wonders
of Batanes.
Truly, the Batanes experience soothes and cool the tired spirit of a burned
out body living in the city.
Promoting Batanes as a destination brings mixed emotions and thoughts.
A part of me wants to show the world the unique beauty of the Island,
for more people to enjoy. However, another part of me is anxious that
these very same people may spoil the features that we admire and enjoy
in the islands.
It is therefore noteworthy that we have the officials in the province
who have the best intentions for the province at heart. Moreover, the
vigilant citizens will complement the efforts of our officials in the
preservation of the tourism products of Batanes and the conservation of
its resources which are what makes up its tourism attraction.
May I therefore extend my warm greetings to the people of Batanes on their
217 years founding anniversary as we in the Department of Tourism affirm
our support to the Ivatans in every way we can for tourism development.
Mabuhay!
