36 Ivatans pass teachers exam

A total of 36 Ivatans passed the recent licensure examination for teachers given last August 8, 1999. The new batch of teachers is mostly fresh graduates of the Saint Dominic College of Batanes, Inc.

Of the 36, eight are graduate of Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and 28 are graduate of Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. More than half of them were former grantees of the Student Enhancement and Development Program, a scholarship project of Congressman Florencio Abad.

The licensed teachers for elementary education are: Emma Adalla, Emelda Alavado, Leocadia Atunay, Evelyn Bartilad, Lina Cabugau, Sarah Cabugao, Bernadita Calma, Oliver Cariaso, Rosa Carzon, Alma Castro, Alma Cheryl Cobico, Mylene Cultura, Margarita Ace Esperanza, Jenny Fe Estoy, Aurora Faeldon, Noemei Gonzales, Rufina Horcajo, Florencia Hortiz, Maria Horiondo, Erlinda Ibardo, Jovencio Loreto, Juana Villacruzada, Farah Viola, Johannes Roel Ybay, Lilia Pajanil, Gerald Ponce, Ofelia Mata, and Nicodemos Rico.

For the secondary education, the board passer are: Ricardo Alcantara, Josephine Apostol, Fredela Barsana, Sharon Grace Gonzales, Michelle Labrador, Nestor Pacuno, Cheryl Velasco, and Ruth Ydel.

The oath taking ceremony for the new Ivatan teachers was held on December 16, 1999 at the Department of Education, Culture and Sports division office in Basco, Batanes. It was the first time the oath taking took place in Batanes.
